GUY
COMBES & WILDSTREAK ART PRESENT
"A VIRTUAL AFRICAN SAFARI/ART WORKSHOP"
Right here in British Columbia. Come - jump on board, sit back and join the adventure of a lifetime.
-APRIL 26th TO 30th - 30th IS A TRAVEL DAY - Breakfast only
Guy was born in Kenya, the son of the late wildlife artist Simon Combes. He is involved in a number of conservation causes and will discuss this with us during the workshop. He will tell us about growing up in Kenya and some of his other wild African experiences. Oil is his choice of medium.
WORKSHOP
· Guy will demo his style of painting - if you are having problems
with a current project, please bring it along and Guy will work with you
on it.
· Slide show of Africa - animals and landscapes - sunsets etc
· 4 days - classes morning and afternoon (demos and hands on)
· Evenings will be critiques - 2 per student
· Tuition fee will include all meals and 4 nights' accommodation;
you will be responsible for your own transportation. Penticton is the nearest
airport. Shuttle service will be made available upon request from Penticton
to Osoyoos.
· Each student will be supplied with at least 2 African photo references
to use at their own discretion... I am sure Guy has tons and tons of photos
- When Jamie and I went on our African Safari we must have taken about 6000
photos.
· On the last day classes will be as usual but Jamie (my husband)
will be setting up an ART SHOW for all of us. Each student may have 2 or
3 pieces in the show. There will be no commission or fees charged.
· Venue will be the NK'MIP Cultural Center - Spirit Ridge Resort.
Please Google it. It is a first class resort (you deserve nothing but the
best). They will be advertising the show for us.
· I will try and talk Terry Isaac into joining us for one of our
evening critiques
· Guy works in oil - I know a lot of you use acrylics. I am going
to try and get samples of the OPEN acrylics for us to try, they work a lot
like oils in that they stay open for a lot longer than the normal ones.
Oil painters may want to try them
· The tuition is based on 2 students sharing a room. The resort is
set up with 2 bedroom suites - each bedroom with it's own bathroom. The
living room and full kitchen (great for midnight snacks) are shared. You
can opt for your own room but there is an additional charge for this...
· Spouses and other guests are welcome - again, there will be an
additional charge. There are a couple of options for this so please check
with me.

"Plein-Air Painting with Bill Hibberd"
SEPT. 18th. & 19th, 2010
Bill
Hibberd is offering a 2 day Plein-Air Workshop - SEPT. 18th. & 19th,
2010
To register - Please contact Irene Gray. Limited to 10 persons
- locations to be decided at a later date.
Start
times both days 9:00 AM on separate locations (no more than 1 hour drive
from Penticton)
Locations will be chosen for visual opportunities, toilet access and painting
sites situated just steps from our cars. If you have mobility issues talk
to me and we will work it out.
There will be a framework to hang the technique and process examples on
but the idea is for each participant to explore plein air painting with
their uniqueness intact.
I would prefer that people are prepared to work in oils or acrylics if possible.
Otherwise speak to me beforehand and we'll see if this workshop would benefit
you.
What
you WILL accomplish in this workshop:
Overcome fear of painting in public on location
Become comfortable with tools and methods of plein-air painting
Consider and design your personal plein-air process
Learn how to choose your subject
Learn how to begin and when to end your painting.
HAVE FUN!
There will be time for discussion about different
techniques and as much personal assistance as I'm able to give. The main
goal is for you to experience the joy of painting from life in a supportive,
non-threatening venue. (once you've painted plein-air you will never see
with the same eyes) If you have painted plein-air and want to progress,
hopefully this weekend will provide you with confidence and some fresh ideas
with which to pursue your vision.
At the end of Sundays painting we'll gather at my house in Trout Creek where
Joanna and I will provide a meal for you and we'll de-brief and consider
our work.
